We'd like to thank every one of you who came to Hack Day for making it such a ridiculously cool experience. We all had an extraordinary time and the stuff you guys came up with was ridiculously good. We've seen over three thousand pictures appear on Flickr, dozens of blog posts, experienced lightning strikes, indoor rain, wifi angst, evacuations, an almost beautiful collective Doctor Who-watching experiences, quite a lot of Matt Cashmore's dodgy 90s rave music, talks from many of the best people in the industry, exclusive API launches, faceball, sofa-sleeping, film crews, enormous venue movements, reasonable pizza, quick changes of plans, a storming set by The Rumble Strips and over seventy creative and unusual projects created by the day's most important people - the hackers. I personally couldn't be happier with the way the event turned out, and once I've slept for a month I'll look forward to re-experiencing the whole thing through your blog posts, twitterings and flickr posts. Thanks again everyone! An astonishing weekend.

Just a quick bit of warning. We'll be supplying food and drink for the event, and some of it will be vegetarian, but we're not going to be able to accommodate needs much more diverse than that. So if you have special requirements you should bring your own packed lunch. And if you need Mars Bars in order to function and code effectively, then it might be worth your while bringing a few for emergencies!

]]>Tue, 12 Jun 2007 16:05:00 GMT Do you need to use Yahoo/BBC APIs?Some people have been asking whether or not you need to use Yahoo or BBC APIs in your hack to be eligible for a prize. The short answer to this is that you should definitely try and get something from the two companies into your hack and you probably won't win a prize if there's nothing from the two organisations in it. But it's worth adding a couple of other things. Firstly, there are a lot of APIs! There's BBC Programme Information, Weather Information, everything that Yahoo provides, Flickr, YUI, del.icio.us, webjay, upcoming, maps... Between the two companies there aren't really a lot of areas that aren't covered, so it shouldn't be too limiting. The other thing is that we positively encourage people to also use other people's APIs at the event. So we'll be delighted to see stuff that also uses APIs from last.fm, facebook, amazon, ebay, dopplr, open street map, tioti, netvibes, google and/or thousands of other company's services.
